Right in the middle of Monastiraki square is a beautiful byzantine church, Church of Panagia Pantanassa. About 1/3 of the church is below ground level. The church is a barrel-vaulted basilica denoting the transition from late antiquity to the Byzantine and Medieval World.


Monastiraki is know for it's flea markets and street shopping
